Pollinator & Beneficial Habitat Seed

Pollinator Mixes & Flowering Species

Build Flowering Habitat for Farms, Field Borders, Orchards, Vineyards & Dedicated Pollinator Areas

Weaver Seed offers pollinator mixtures and individual flowering species for agricultural habitat, wildflower plantings, field borders and other beneficial-insect projects. Choose a ready-made blend or build a planting around bloom diversity, plant height, site conditions, available moisture and long-term management.

Flowering Habitat

Build Diversity Into the Planting

Pollinator plantings can combine different flower forms, bloom periods, plant heights and growth habits. The right mix depends on whether the site is primarily agricultural habitat, a wildflower area, a low-profile border or a multi-purpose cover.

Flowering Diversity

Combining multiple flowering species creates a broader range of bloom forms than relying on a single species alone.

Plant Structure

Low, mid-height and taller species can create several vegetation layers within the same habitat planting.

Agricultural Fit

Pollinator seed can be used in field borders, orchard and vineyard areas, designated habitat strips and other managed sites.

+

Flexible Species Mix

Wildflowers, clovers, other legumes and compatible cover-crop species can be combined around the objective of the project.

Where Pollinator Seed Fits

Match the Planting to the Site

A pollinator mix should fit the location and management plan. Plant height, bloom period, crop system, irrigation, mowing schedule and desired stand duration can all change the best option.

Farms & Vineyards Flowering mixtures and individual species for managed agricultural areas where habitat is one of the planting goals.
Orchards Options for orchard floors, borders and dedicated strips where planting height and seasonal management need to be considered.
Field Borders Flowering habitat along field edges, roadsides and other areas outside the main crop-production zone.
Apiary Forage Flowering plantings near managed colonies where additional seasonal nectar and pollen resources are part of the planting objective.
Native & Wildflower Areas Native and non-native flowering species can be selected around site goals, regional fit and the desired character of the planting.
Custom Projects Custom mixtures can be developed around acreage, crop system, height, rainfall, irrigation, bloom goals and planting method.

Selecting the Right Seed

Start With the Planting Objective

“Pollinator mix” is too broad to be a useful specification by itself. The best planting depends on where it is going, how tall it can get, when bloom is needed, how much water is available and how the site will be managed after establishment.

Use the Seed Advisor
Primary Goal Decide whether the priority is honey bee forage, broader pollinator habitat, flowering cover, native species, visual color or a combination of objectives.
Bloom Window Annual and perennial species flower at different times. Build around the season when flowering is most useful.
Plant Height Match mature height to the site, especially in orchards, vineyards, borders, roadways and lower-profile habitat areas.
Available Moisture Rainfall timing, irrigation and soil moisture influence establishment, growth, flowering and the expression of individual species.
Management Plan Mowing, termination, traffic, reseeding goals and crop-system operations should be considered before the mix is selected.
Planting Method Drill, broadcast and other establishment methods can require different seedbed preparation, seeding rates and depth control.
Establishment Matters

Good Seed Still Needs a Good Start

Pollinator and wildflower plantings depend on seedbed preparation, appropriate planting depth, seed-to-soil contact, adequate moisture and management that allows the desired species to establish and reach flowering.

STEP 01

Prepare the Seedbed

Reduce competing vegetation and create a firm planting surface that allows good seed-to-soil contact.

STEP 02

Control Planting Depth

Many wildflower and clover seeds are small. Avoid burying them excessively deep and follow species-specific depth guidance.

STEP 03

Plant Into Moisture

Coordinate planting with dependable rainfall or irrigation whenever possible so seedlings can establish after germination.

STEP 04

Manage for Flowering

Adjust mowing and termination timing around bloom, seed set, crop operations and whether future natural reseeding is desired.

Establishment note: Flowering time, plant height, stand density and the relative expression of individual species can vary with planting date, soil conditions, moisture, fertility, temperature and local growing conditions. A multi-species mix will not express identically at every site.
