Orchardgrass provides a productive perennial forage base, while Riley Intermediate Ryegrass contributes vigorous cool-season growth. Tetraploid Annual Ryegrass helps provide fast establishment and early forage production, and Lofa Festulolium adds persistence and adaptability.

Establishment

Establish on a Firm, Prepared Seedbed

Seed Premium Horse Pasture 2 at approximately 25–30 lb/acre. The grass seed should be placed shallowly with good seed-to-soil contact.

A drill provides consistent depth and placement, but the mix can also be broadcast when followed by a roller or other method that improves seed-to-soil contact.

Maintain adequate soil moisture through germination and early establishment. Do not graze a newly seeded pasture until the plants are well rooted and able to withstand grazing and hoof traffic.

Establish the Stand Before Heavy Grazing

Good pasture establishment is especially important in horse paddocks because hoof traffic and close grazing can damage young plants before they develop adequate root systems.

Rotational grazing, appropriate fertility, irrigation where needed, and maintaining adequate residual plant height can improve stand persistence.
