Cool-Season Cereal Forage

Beardless barley and Forerunner triticale provide a grass component capable of producing substantial vegetative growth and seasonal forage under favorable growing conditions.

High-Quality Brassica Forage

Trophy rape and Subzero kale add highly digestible forage to the mix. Forage brassicas are commonly used to extend grazing opportunities during cooler parts of the year.

Legume Contribution

Frostmaster peas and bell beans add broadleaf forage and biological nitrogen-fixing capability when properly inoculated and successfully nodulated.

Grazing Management

Manage the Mix as a Diverse Forage

Because Cover Crop Grazer contains both cereal forage and brassicas, livestock management matters. Animals should be gradually adapted to lush brassica forage, and access to additional dry forage can help maintain a more balanced ration. Avoid turning hungry, unadapted livestock directly onto a lush stand.

Transition Livestock Gradually Introduce animals to lush brassica forage over time rather than making an abrupt feed change.
Provide Dry Forage Hay or other grass forage can help balance highly digestible brassica material in the ration.
Watch Grazing Pressure Controlled grazing can improve forage utilization and reduce excessive trampling.
Time Grazing to the Stand Forage quality and available biomass change as cereals and brassicas mature.

Livestock Note: Brassica forage should be managed as part of a balanced livestock diet. Extension guidance recommends adapting livestock gradually to brassicas and providing other forage rather than relying exclusively on brassica material.
